Surgical Options for Treating Elbow Conditions

“If non-surgical treatments are ineffective, surgery may be recommended to improve the foot's function and reduce pain.”

Foot and ankle conditions can range from minor injuries to chronic pain and mobility issues. At SJMC, we offer a range of surgical options for treating foot and ankle conditions, including:

Ankle Ligament Reconstruction

If you have a torn ligament in your ankle, surgery may be necessary to repair it. Ankle ligament reconstruction surgery involves replacing the damaged ligament with a healthy one, either from your own body or a donor. This surgery can help improve stability and reduce the risk of future injuries.

Flat Foot Correction

A flat foot, also known as a fallen arch, is a condition in which the arch of the foot collapses, causing the foot to flatten and become painful. If non-surgical treatments are ineffective, surgery may be recommended to improve the foot's function and reduce pain. There are several surgical options for correcting flat foot, including:

  • Arthrodesis: This procedure involves fusing the bones in the foot to create a more stable arch.
  • Osteotomy: This procedure involves cutting and realigning the bones in the foot to create a more normal arch.
  • Tendon transfer: This procedure involves transferring tendons from one part of the foot to another to improve the function of the arch.

Fracture Fixation

Surgical treatment may be necessary to align the bones correctly and promote healing if you have a fractured foot or ankle. There are several techniques that may be used, including:

  • Closed reduction: This procedure is used to reposition the bones into their proper alignment without making an incision.
  • Open reduction: This procedure involves making an incision in the skin to reposition the bones.
  • Plate and screw fixation: This procedure involves using metal plates and screws to hold the bones in place while they heal.

Surgical treatment may be an effective option for certain foot and ankle conditions. To learn more about your surgical options, please visit our Orthopaedic & Spine department if your foot or ankle condition does not respond to non-surgical treatment.
